How do I force delete a file in PowerShell?

I'm trying to delete a file and get "The File Name(s) would be too long for the destination folder".  As I'm doing shift-delete there is no recycle bin, so what's the destination folder?

Can anyone suggest a way to force the removal please, perhaps using PowerShell?  I think the file was created in Linux and now sits on the SAN I administer.  I cannot rename it, or move it up a level.
